PREMIER PRAISES 101 OUTSTANDING QUEENSLANDERS

Representing fields as diverse as tennis, chemistry, landscape painting and philanthropy, Premier Peter Beattie today congratulated the 101 Queenslanders recognised in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

“These men and women have worked tirelessly in their communities, their professions and their industries,” Mr Beattie said.

“From serving the law, health and education, to their dedication in research and community service, we are proud of these Queenslanders who are part of the rich fabric of Queensland community life,” he said.

“Receiving the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) is Justice Margaret McMurdo, in recognition of her service to the law, legal education, women’s issues and the community.

“Recipients of the Order of Australia (AO) include tennis coach/player and mentor Ashley Cooper, ethicist and researcher Sister Regis Mary Dunne, Professors Ken Donald and Colin MacKerras, landscape artist William Robinson and swimming identity Don Talbot.

“Queenslanders recognised as Members of the Order of Australia (AM) include Raelene Boyle, Toni Hoffman, Clyde Barclay, Gaynor Austen, Ian Donaldson, Professors Gina Geffen and Graeme George, John McAuliffe, Ian McMaster, John Wharton and Dr Gregory Whitmore.

“The 2007 Honours List recipients have made a difference to their communities and their chosen fields and I know Queenslanders will join me in congratulating each and every one of the them.

“They are leading the way in many pursuits and having an impact both at home and, in many cases, around the world.”
