The Honourable Rod Welford
ADULT LEARNERS’ WEEK GRANTS AND AWARD NOMINATIONS OPEN
Training providers, community groups and people who have made a contribution to mature-aged learning are urged to nominate for an Adult Learners' Week Award or apply for a grant to host an event during the week.
Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said the awards and grants are part of Queensland Adult Learners’ Week from 1-8 September.
“There are $1000 grants available for education providers and $2000 grants for community partnerships to host events, such as workshops and open days,” Mr Welford said.
“Last year, there were more than 100 events held in locations across Queensland, including remote and regional areas, to learn about the benefits of lifelong learning and the options available.
“Applications for grants close on Friday 29 June.”
Mr Welford said nominations for the Adult Learners' Week Awards, which recognise the many Queenslanders who contribute to adult learning, would close on Friday July 20.
“I encourage those groups and individuals who have given mature-aged people the chance to tackle new challenges and gain valuable skills to nominate for an award,” Mr Welford said.
“Learning doesn’t have to involve classrooms or assignments. It can be as simple as joining a library, club, cultural association or charity, or learning over the internet.”
The award categories are Outstanding Adult Learner, Outstanding Adult Education Teacher or Tutor, and Outstanding Community Learning Program for Adults.
Award nomination and grant application forms are available on the DETA website at www.education.qld.gov.au/community/events/alw.
Adult Learners Week is an initiative of Adult Learning Australia in partnership with the Queensland and Federal Governments.
