Jondaryan Shire receives State funding for bores project: Fraser

A $6 million State grant will help secure a sustainable water supply for Jondaryan Shire.

Local Government and Planning Minister Andrew Fraser said the funds would allow Jondaryan Shire Council to re-establish a borefield at Oakey.

“Sourcing water from the borefield will help meet demand in the Oakey township and will take pressure off the Toowoomba water supply, which is Jondaryan’s current source of water,” Mr Fraser said.

“This project is part of the Toowoomba Drought Management Plan and will provide a major boost to the region’s water resources.”

Mr Fraser said the importance of the project to the community meant the Government would fund 100 per cent of the project costs.

“The State Government is working hard to build the water grid and is committed to working with councils to secure a safe and sustainable water supply for our communities.

“This funding comes on top of a $3.8 million grant towards the construction of a water treatment plant and a waste water reuse scheme for Jondaryan Shire.”

Mr Fraser said the projects were funded under the Government’s Water and Sewerage Program, which provides assistance to local governments for water and sewerage infrastructure.
