Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
Land secured for new Hibiscus Lodge Aged Care Facility
Nambour’s Hibiscus Lodge Aged Care Facility will have a new home at Glenbrook Drive and Jack Street, Health Minister Stephen Robertson said today.
Mr Robertson said Queensland Health has secured an 11-hectare site as part of a $10.2 million plan to relocate Hibiscus Lodge from its present site on the Nambour Hospital campus.
“The new site at Glenbrook Drive and Jack Steet, Nambour, is an ideal location that will provide a relaxing environment for residents, close to local amenities and services,” he said.
“The new nursing home will accommodate at least 40 residents with the capacity for future expansion.
“It will also include accommodation for up to five psycho-geriatric patients.
“This is a great outcome for older residents of Nambour and surrounds.”
Mr Robertson said a contract to purchase the land has been signed and settlement is expected within one month.
“The relocation of this aged care facility is part of the proposed redevelopment of Nambour General Hospital,” he said.
“The future use of the existing Hibiscus Lodge site will be determined as part of the master planning exercise for the Nambour Hospital, currently underway.
“Design for the new nursing home is well advanced and construction is due to start early next year.”
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2008.
Mr Robertson acknowledged the support of the Member for Nicklin, Mr Peter Wellington MP, in progressing the relocation of Hibiscus Lodge to a new site.
