GEORGE MILLER TO BE HONOURED AT BRISBANE FILM FESTIVAL

This year’s Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) will pay tribute to Queensland’s Academy Award winning producer, George Miller, through free screenings of his most famous films.

Arts Minister Rod Welford said five of Miller’s films would feature in BIFF in the Burbs, a series of outdoor community screenings throughout south-east Queensland.

“BIFF in the Burbs brings the Brisbane International Film Festival to the community,” Mr Welford said.

“It’s a fantastic way to introduce families to quality cinema and give them a taste of what BIFF is all about before the ticketed program commences.

“George Miller, born and raised in Chinchilla, is the official BIFF patron so it was a natural choice to showcase his films to the BIFF in the Burbs audiences.”

Mr Welford said the Miller classics screening were all rated G or PG and would include Happy Feet, Babe, Babe 2 Pig in the City, Lorenzo’s Oil and Flirting.

“As well as the main feature, audiences at BIFF in the Burbs will have the opportunity to view and vote on finalists in the annual Fast Film competition,” Mr Welford said.

“In the Fast Film competition, aspiring filmmakers were given 50 days to write, shoot and edit a film of four minutes or less.

“Fast Film entrants never fail to produce challenging films that spark audience discussion and this year audiences will be able to vote for their favourite film via SMS text messaging.”

BIFF in the Burbs screenings, sponsored by Stockland, will be held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 6pm, between 6 July to 5 August.
