The final $15 million State Government contribution to a $114 million upgrade of the Ross River Dam has been announced in the 2007-2008 State Budget.
Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace said the $15 million would complete remediation works at the dam, which services Townsville, Thuringowa and surrounding regions, and brings the total contribution of the State Government to $80.2 million.
“The funding has been used for stabilizing of the dam embankment, augmentation of the foundation drainage system and the installation of spillway gates.
“This final $15 million will be used to complete the project,” Mr Wallace said.
“I look forward to witnessing the completion of this project during the 2007-2008 financial year,’’ he said.
Mr Wallace said the Beattie Government was investing billions in water infrastructure to improve the security of supply of urban and industrial water users.
“This project is part of a program of infrastructure works to secure long-term supplies.”
