A $102.3 million injection of funds for Queensland Police Service capital works under the 2007-08 State Budget will help fund the building and planning of 23 new or replacement police stations and two new district headquarters, Police Minister Judy Spence said.

Ms Spence said the capital works funding in the 2007-08 budget was a massive increase on last year’s budget of $70.74 million.

“Queensland communities are the big winners out of this budget, with an increased police presence in many regions which is in line with our commitment to provide safer communities,” Ms Spence said.

“The 2007-08 year will also see $13 million spent on the refurbishment of 11 police stations throughout Queensland.

“New district headquarters will also be built at Caboolture and Coomera.”

Ms Spence announced funding would be provided for the commencement of projects including:

• $2.15 million for a new police station at Carseldine:
• $12.89 million for a replacement station at Fortitude Valley;
• $2.2 million for a new police station at Surfers Paradise;
• $6.89 million for replacement police stations and watch house at Ayr;
• $3.65 million for a new district office at Coomera;
• $2.5 million for a replacement police station at Camp Hill/Carina;
• $1.0 million for a new police station and accommodation at Russell Island;
• $6.7 million for a replacement police station at Ipswich;
• $1.3 million for a new police station at Wujal Wujal;
• $400,000 for a new police station at Macleay Island;
• $1.6 million towards the design and planning for new stations at Crestmead/Marsden, Mango Hill (Northlakes), Reedy Creek and Sippy Downs







Ms Spence said the following projects would benefit in 2007-08 from the Beattie Government’s investment in capital works:

• $1.3 million towards a new watch house at Strathpine;
• $1.5 million towards a replacement district headquarters and watch house at Charleville;
• $1.2 million for the provision of residential accommodation at Cloncurry, Horn Island and Longreach;
• $1.2 million towards the Caboolture police station at watch house extensions;
• $2.3 million for the refurbishment of the Beenleigh police station;
$1.1 million for the upgrade of the Mount Morgan police station;
• $2.85 million for the refurbishment of the police station at Upper Mount Gravatt;
• $1.11 million for the upgrade of the Longreach police station;
• $1.48 million for the refurbishment of the Townsville police station;
• $1.7 million dollars for the upgrade of the police station at Bribie Island.

The 2007-08 State Budget is providing a record $1.437 billion Budget for the Queensland Police Service, an increase of $137 million on last year.
