Minister for Police and Corrective Services
The Honourable Judy Spence

STRICTLY EMBARGOED UNTIL 2:30PM, TUESDAY JUNE 5, 2007- $3.7 MILLION BOOST FOR POLICING IN CABOOLTURE

The 2007-08 State Budget delivers $3.7 million to policing in the Caboolture area.

Minister for Police Judy Spence said $2.5 million is provided for commencement of the construction of a new district police headquarters at Caboolture and $1.2 million is allocated for the extension of the Caboolture police station and watch house.

“This funding is a huge boost for police and residents in the Caboolture area,” Ms Spence said.

“The 2006-07 budget provided $500,000 for planning of the new $9.5 million police district and headquarters in this growing region.”

“This year’s budget allocates further significant capital works funding to get construction of this vital infrastructure underway.”

Ms Spence said the funding continues the government’s commitment to setting up a new police district functions for Caboolture at Burpengary.

“The new 24 hour district headquarters will manage the areas of Caboolture, Bribie Island, Woodford, Kilcoy and Moore,” Ms Spence said.

“The Queensland Police Service must continue to grow with the state’s population, including the creation of new police districts, identified before last year’s election.”

Ms Spence said the new district will accommodate a range of police officers and teams, including a Criminal Investigation Branch, Child Protection and Investigation Unit and Traffic Branch.

“The new headquarters will bring more police into this growing region, focusing on a variety of operational and service areas,” Ms Spence said.

“Police will be better able to respond to incidents occurring in the area and provide improved services for residents and business.”

“This budget ensures the people of Caboolture can feel safe and secure, now and into the future.”
