SCHOOL TOUCH FOOTBALL STARS COMPETE FOR STATE HONOURS
Around 290 school touch football stars from across the state will compete in the Queensland School Touch Championships at Thuringowa this weekend.
Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said both the boys and girls 15-years-and-under championships would be held at Greenwood Park, from Friday 1 June to Sunday 3 June.
“The students have been selected for their hard work, talent and skill, and I’d like to congratulate each competitor on his or her achievement and I wish them every success,” Mr Welford said.
“The championships provide a great opportunity for these young athletes to compete at a high level while meeting and sharing experiences with their peers from across the state.”
All 12 of the school sporting regions will be represented at this year’s event—Metropolitan West, Metropolitan North, Metropolitan East, North West, South West, Wide Bay, Capricornia, Darling Downs, Northern, Peninsula, South Coast and Sunshine Coast.
During each of the championships the teams will be divided into two pools, and matches will be played in a round robin format.
Mr Welford thanked the dedicated teachers and school staff who had worked hard to make the championships a success.
Following the championships, 12 boys and 12 girls will be selected to represent Queensland at the School Sport Australia Touch Football Championships in Melbourne in October.
