Communities to host first Queensland Youth Conference

Young Queenslanders and youth sector representatives have a chance to highlight issues of importance to youth at the Department of Communities’ first Queensland Youth Conference in September.

Youth Minister Warren Pitt said he was delighted to announce the conference would be staged in Brisbane from Wednesday 5 September to Friday 7 September.

“This conference will be unique because it will bring young Queenslanders, community groups and government representatives together to share their wealth of knowledge, skills and experience,” Mr Pitt said.

“I hope this conference will encourage many young Queenslanders to take an active interest in their future and realise that they can make a real difference.

“Youth sector representatives will also benefit from this event as it will provide an opportunity to form strong partnerships and help shape the programs they deliver to young people throughout the state.”

Mr Pitt said several Queensland Youth Council members had joined the steering committee set up to stage the September conference.

“The Queensland Government is committed to engaging with young people and the youth sector to ensure we can deliver relevant and responsive policies and programs,” he said.

“This conference will provide a valuable opportunity for everyone involved to listen and to learn from each other and ultimately work towards making Queensland a better place for all young people, wherever they live, whatever their circumstances.

“I encourage anyone interested in the future of young people to keep an eye out for further announcements regarding this exciting conference,” he said.
