Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
BOWEN TO CELEBRATE QUEENSLAND WEEK WITH BIG BBQ
Premier Peter Beattie today announced that Bowen will begin the State’s biggest birthday celebration, Queensland Week, with a free community breakfast barbeque on Sunday 3 June at the Bowen Lions Markets in Hansen Park.
Premier Beattie said the barbeque would provide the people of Bowen and surrounding areas with a chance to get involved in Queensland Week celebrations.
“Bowen has exploded in spectacular fashion into the international spotlight and is a proud ambassador for Queensland,” Mr Beattie said.
“The Bowen BBQ is a gesture of thanks from my Government to the people of Bowen for proudly flying the Queensland flag.
“Queensland Week is all about celebrating what’s great about Queensland and being a Queenslander, and the barbeque will celebrate this in true Queensland style.
“I encourage Bowen residents to get involved in Queensland Week by attending the barbeque and showing their Queensland spirit by wearing maroon with pride.”
The Bowen BBQ will be held from 8am to 12pm in Hanson Park on Horseshoe Bay Road. It will include a range of free children’s activities including a jumping castle, merry-go-round, face painting, balloons and camel rides.
The barbeque will also feature live music from local band Paul Killingly and the Culprits, a five-piece jazz ensemble from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, the Bowen State High School Concert Band, and live performances from the Bingalie and Waru Dance Troup.
2007 Queensland Week will be held from 3 to 10 June and will involve a program of celebrations around the State.
