Minister for Natural Resources and Water and Minister Assisting the Premier in North Queensland
The Honourable Craig Wallace
RESPONSIBLE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ON SHOW AT GOVT DISPLAY
A combined display by two Queensland Government agencies will focus on responsible resource management at this year’s Far North Queensland Field Days in Walkamin this week.
The Department of Natural Resources and Water will showcase information relating to the responsible use of water, vegetation and land resources, while Primary Industries and Fisheries will focus on the control of pest plants and animals, and the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS).
Minister for Natural Resources and Water Craig Wallace said field days provided an excellent opportunity for property owners and farmers to have their questions answered in person by NRW officers.
It was also a chance to gain an insight into sustainable and responsible management of land, water and vegetation, he said.
“Sustainability and responsibility have to be our main priorities if we want a strong economic and environmental future for Queensland,” Mr Wallace said.
“This means looking more carefully at our resources and production methods to see if there are better ways of managing them - ways that will ensure their availability or usefulness long-term.
“This year’s display will show not only what the government is doing about managing for the future, but offer ideas to visitors about how they can do the same in their everyday lives.”
Mr Wallace said visitors to NRW displays would have access to information about cultural heritage, vegetation management, compliance and fire management, and the opportunity to view a live demonstration of mobile mapping technology.
"With water conservation high on the agenda, NRW will also host a display of water metering and monitoring equipment and provide information on the popular home and garden WaterWise rebate schemes," he said.
“Biosecurity issues including pest plant and animal management will be a highlight of DPI&F displays, along with a range of information about fisheries, dairy, beef, FarmBis and the Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority.”
The NRW/DPI&F display is positioned at sites E&F 5&6
Far North Queensland Field Days will take place at the Walkamin Caravan Park, Walkamin, from 8am to 5pm on May 30 and 31.
