SCHWARTEN ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR WIDE BAY/BURNETT HOUSING PROVIDER
Queensland Housing Minister Robert Schwarten today announced funding of more than $125,000 for the Queensland Community Housing Coalition to continue to employ a Community Housing Resource Worker in the Wide Bay/Burnett.
Mr Schwarten said the funding was a share in the close to $1.5 million allocated to seven registered housing organisations under the Community Housing Resource Worker program in 2007-08.
“This funding allows the Queensland Community Housing Coalition to continue to employ a Community Housing Resource Worker in the Wide Bay/Burnett region to assist in delivering housing services in the region,” Mr Schwarten said.
“While the Community Housing Resource Worker may be employed by one registered provider, they are considered a regional resource and provide support and assistance to all registered providers within their region.”
The Community Housing Resource Worker Program was established by the State Government in 1994 and is managed by the Department of Housing.
“These workers assist providers in building viable community housing services and a sustainable community-based housing service delivery system,” Mr Schwarten said.
“They offer advice and skill development opportunities for providers and can monitor on-the-ground housing and support trends and issues.
“They also promote and maintain high level communication between agencies, Department of Housing staff and the Regional Community Housing Council,” he said.
The program is one component of the Community Housing Resourcing Framework, which aims to strengthen community and local government-managed housing’s place in, and links with, the broader one social housing system.
