Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries
The Honourable Tim Mulherin
PART DECLARATION OF TIARO SHIRE
Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin has approved the part declaration of Tiaro shire under State drought process, following recommendations from the Local Drought Committee.
The declaration, which covers local council divisions 2 and 3, is effective from April 1, 2007.
Mr Mulherin said below average rainfall had been recorded over the last 12 months.
“Pasture quality is extremely low due to the lack of summer rain while bulk pasture is minimal with an expectation that it will not support cattle through the coming winter and spring seasons,’’ Mr Mulherin said.
This now brings the area of Queensland officially drought declared by the State Government to 83 shires and two part shire, which is equivalent to 62.29% of the land area of the State. There are also 39 Individually Droughted Properties in a further 10 shires.
Under shire and IDP declarations, eligible primary producers have access to freight subsidies on fodder and water, stock returning from agistment and on stock purchased for restocking through the Drought Relief Assistance Scheme.
For further information about DRAS and other assistance measures, producers can contact the DPI&F Business Information Centre on 13 25 23.
