Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
The $25 million Caloundra Hospital redevelopment is expected to start within six months, Health Minister Stephen Robertson said today.
Mr Robertson said the Queensland Government has appointed Ranbury Management Group as project managers to progress the development.
“The project will deliver an additional 30 beds to ensure Caloundra Hospital continues to meet growing demand for health services on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
“This is part of the Beattie Government’s billion dollar health plan for the Sunshine Coast which includes a new Maroochydore Health Hub, more beds for Nambour Hospital and the new Sunshine Coast Hospital at Kawana.
“Caloundra Hospital will continue to play an essential role in health care on the Sunshine Coast and that is why we are boosting services with this latest development.”
The redevelopment will deliver:
• Expanded Emergency Department with new 8-bed observation ward;
• 12-bed renal dialysis unit;
• 10-bed purpose-built palliative care unit;
• Improved ambulance drop off bays;
• A purpose built oral health facility with dental laboratories; and
• Upgrades to car parking, services and support infrastructure.
Mr Robertson said Ranbury Management would work with Queensland Health to coordinate consultants and architects.
“The project team are working to fast-track design and construction to bring these additional services online by the middle of next year,” he said.
“This development – along with an additional 60 beds at Nambour Hospital – will ensure Sunshine Coast residents can continue to access quality health services before the new Sunshine Coast Hospital comes online in 2014.”
