Community centre looks to the future of the Gateway
Plans to upgrade the Gateway are giving the community a futuristic view of motorway transport with the latest technology.
The Gateway Upgrade Project community information centre was opened this week wowing visitors with the latest informative and interactive displays.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Paul Lucas said the centre will curb curiosity from the community into the construction of the upgraded motorway.
“Anticipation in the community has been growing as construction work which started earlier this year becomes visible along the Gateway,” Mr Lucas said.
“This centre now means people can drop in and look at what the future holds for the iconic bridge and vital arterial link.
Mr Lucas said interactive technology allows visitors to ‘walk’ a virtual upgraded motorway and view the twin Gateway Bridges as they will appear in 2011.
“There are detailed animations, one showing how the new Gateway Bridge will be built and the other providing a virtual drive-through of the project.
“For those wanting more in-depth information there are also geotechnical and core soil samples, and a scaled-down floor map of the entire 20km project corridor.”
“This is the largest bridge and road project in Queensland’s history and demonstrates the Government’s commitment to delivering vital transport infrastructure,” Mr Lucas said.
Phil Mumford, CEO of Queensland Motorways, said the Community Information Centre was yet another success for the project.
“The centre provides a human face for the project and gives visitors an opportunity to speak directly with members of the Community Relations Team,” Mr Mumford said.
“All ages and interest levels are catered for from primary school students to those hunting down details of traffic changes.”
The Gateway Upgrade Project’s Community Liaison Groups will also hold meetings at the Centre with the first scheduled in the next month.
The centre is open during normal business hours Monday to Friday and from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays at 1051 Lytton Road, Murarrie.
