TRANS TASMAN CLUBS GAMES PROMISES BOOST TO SUNSHINE COAST TOURISM
The Sunshine Coast is set to become the home for the Australian leg of a new multi-sport series with our traditional rivals New Zealand, Premier Peter Beattie announced today.
“The Trans Tasman Club Games is a newly-established, annual event open to all members of Chartered Clubs in New Zealand and Registered Clubs in Australia,” Mr Beattie said.
“The inaugural event will be staged on the Sunshine Coast from 2 - 9 September this year.
“Thereafter, it will rotate annually between a New Zealand venue and the Sunshine Coast.
“It is anticipated that the inaugural games later this year will involve about 1000 competitors with between 600 and 750 of them expected to travel from New Zealand and other Australian states to take part.
Mr Beattie said the Games would be staged under a six year agreement between Queensland Events and Vintage Sport and Leisure.
“The Games will see visitors from New Zealand and around Australia compete in a range of clubs sports including golf, trap shooting, cricket, darts, billiards, and lawn bowls,” Mr Beattie said.
