TWO QUEENSLAND EVENTS RECEIVE GRANTS: PREMIER

Premier Peter Beattie has today announced two regional events have won grants in the next round of funding under the successful Queensland Events Regional Development Program.

“While the full list of grant recipients is still being finalised, I am delighted to say the Bowen Seafood Festival will receive $6,000 and the 1770 Festival will receive $25,000,” Mr Beattie said.

“These are iconic Queensland events and the grants will help them grow, improve and reach their full potential,” he said.

“For many communities, events are their life-blood. They attract visitors and investment, and they create jobs.

“This innovative funding program recognises that and is further evidence of my Government’s strong support for our rural and regional towns and communities.”

The 1770 Festival, which kicks off today and runs until May 26, commemorates Captain Cook’s landing on the shore of Bustard Bay. It includes fireworks, re-enactments, a street parade and other attractions.

The Bowen Seafood Festival, which will be held this Saturday, May 26, showcases the best of the region’s seafood and local produce. It is a family event held on the foreshore of Horseshoe Bay.

Mr Beattie will be announcing the full list of round 12 grant winners soon.
