NO PLANS FOR METERS FOR PRIVATE BORES ON BRIBIE, SAYS WALLACE
The Department of Natural Resources has no plans to put meters on domestic bores on Bribie Island, Water Minister Craig Wallace said today.
A recent media article quoted a local council officer saying there was “talk” that bores would be metered – it was no more official than that.
And it was wrong.
“For the record, my department has no plans to meter bores on Bribie,” Mr Wallace said.
“Indeed, there are no meters on domestic bores anywhere in Queensland.
“Further, there are no plans to charge people for domestic bore water.”
Mr Wallace said the State Government had recently banned new bores in Toowoomba and in Brisbane’s southern suburbs – but not anywhere else.
“All water supplies are precious in the worst drought on record, including bore water,” Mr Wallace said.
“I call on all people to use domestic bores sparingly during the current drought – though I am sure people are already doing this,” he said.
