NEW HOUSING COMPLEX IN BUNDABERG SET TO ACCEPT TENANTS
A new $1.09 million Department of Housing unit complex in Bundaberg West consisting of four, two-bedroom units will start accepting tenants soon, Housing Minister Robert Schwarten announced today.
Mr Schwarten said the housing complex in Mulgrave Street was finished recently as part of the Department’s new construction program.
“These units were built to address the shortage of private and public sector accommodation in the Bundaberg region,” he said.
“Tenants will be able to enjoy the benefits of living in a central location close to conveniences such as public transport and local shopping and medical centres.”
Each unit in the complex is self-contained with a kitchen, bathroom, laundry, clothesline and private patio.
Two ground floor units were designed and built to adaptable standards.
“The two adaptable units can be easily modified in the future to suit the widest possible range of occupants’ physical needs as a result of ageing or disabilities,” he said.
“Using adaptable design for new construction projects is a smart initiative of the State Government because it provides flexibility in housing design and reduces the long-term costs associated with delivering housing for all Queenslanders.”
The units were designed, project-managed and built by the Department of Public Works.
“This housing development demonstrates the State Government’s strong commitment to social housing in the Bundaberg electorate which has seen more than $47 million spent on housing and housing-related services in the area since 1998,” Mr Schwarten said.
The construction of the Mulgrave and Woondooma Streets units was funded by the Australian Government and the Queensland Government through the Commonwealth State Housing Agreement.
