Registrations are now open for this year’s “most important Queensland infrastructure event” the Major Projects Conference, Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure Anna Bligh today said today.

Ms Bligh today urged business and industry representatives to sign up for the fifth annual Conference, to be held on Friday 3 August in Brisbane, with online registrations now available for the first time.

“This is the most important event on the calendar for finding out about the multi-billion dollar investments in projects that are underway and planned for Queensland,” Ms Bligh said.
‘People aiming to do business with mining, construction and civil contracting sectors in particular can get invaluable advice and information about the range of significant developments Queensland has in the works.

“The Major Projects Conference is also a great opportunity to network with fellow industry and business players, including key decision makers both in the private and public sectors.

“More than 1,000 Australian and overseas people attended the one-day conference in 2006 and the organisers expect even more this year.

“I encourage interested people to visit www.mpc.qld.gov.au and register to attend.”
Ms Bligh said with Queensland’s population boom, the billions of dollars worth of major project investment was helping to build a better future for the State by providing crucial infrastructure and driving strong economic growth.

“This year’s event will showcase several projects from the latest issue of Projects Queensland – the authoritative guide to Queensland’s top projects which will be launched at the conference.”

“Shane Bulloch from Multiplex will talk about the proposed $1.7 billion mixed-use development, the North Bank Project, which is estimated to create 1,220 jobs during construction.

“There will also be a presentation by Peter Richards from Dyno Nobel. Mr Richards will talk about the $520 million Moranbah Ammonia Nitrate Project that should create 550 jobs during construction and have a production capacity of 330,000 tonnes per annum.

“And with an initial annual production of over 20 million tonnes of coal, the Wandoan Project will create 500 jobs during construction and 300 during operations. Xstrata Coal’s Peter Coates will present an outline of the venture.”

Speakers would also include Senior Government Ministers and former Premier Wayne Goss.

The Major Projects Conference 2007 is sponsored by ABN AMRO, Brisbane Airport Corporation, Building & Construction Industry Fund, Deloitte, Freehills, Hanson, Parsons Brinckerhoff Australia, Rowland, RPG Rollpress Proplate Group and Turner & Townsend. Engineers Australia is providing in-kind support.
