The three-member committee to oversee the redistribution review of Queensland’s electoral boundaries has been appointed.

Attorney-General Kerry Shine said Governor in Council had approved the appointment of former Supreme Court Judge The Honourable Alan Demack AO as chairman and Department of Education, Training and the Arts Director-General Rachel Hunter as a commissioner. The appointments end on 30 June 2008.

The other member of the redistribution review committee is Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake.

“Judge Demack was Queensland’s first Integrity Commissioner. He is currently chair of the Local Government Electoral and Boundaries Review Commission for Brisbane City ward boundaries,” Mr Shine said.

“Rachel Hunter is a former Director-General of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General and a former Public Service Commissioner.”

There are 89 electorates in Queensland. The last redistribution was finalised in July 1999.
