Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
New short-stay accommodation flats at Redcliffe Hospital will ensure families and carers of patients have a place to stay, Health Minister Stephen Robertson said.
Mr Robertson officially opened the Redcliffe Hospital Foundation Lodge today.
He said the lodge is housed in the former nurses’ quarters which has been recently renovated to provide accommodation for up to 10 people with two bathrooms, two kitchens and two communal lounge and dining areas.
“The lodge will particularly benefit those who have to travel long distances just to be close to the hospital,” Mr Robertson said.
“It will assist parents of babies in special care or children in the paediatric ward or families and carers of critically ill patients and palliative care patients.
“A hospital stay can be an isolating and lonely time for patients and an anxious time for families.
“By helping family and friends to be on hand during a hospital stay, we can help to ensure patients receive the support they need.”
Mr Robertson said Queensland Health contributed $100,000 while the Redcliffe Hospital Foundation raised $100,000 towards project costs.
“This is a great example of what can be achieved when the government and community work together to support local families,” he said.
Mr Robertson said the Redcliffe Hospital Foundation Lodge was located adjacent to Redcliffe Hospital on Sheehan Street.
