Queensland audiences have less than two weeks to catch The 5th Asia–Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT5) at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA).
Arts Minister Rod Welford said APT5 features more than 300 art works and is the only exhibition in the world to focus exclusively on artists from Australia, Asia and the Pacific.
“The exhibition opened in December last year to coincide with the opening of GoMA and the refurbished Queensland Art Gallery, but it will close on Sunday 27 May,” Mr Welford said.
“More than 353,000 visitors have been to GoMA and more than 359,000 to the refurbished Queensland Art Gallery, since APT5 opened.
“We are thrilled that arts enthusiasts, families, young people and tourists have so strongly supported the Triennial, and the new facilities of the Cultural Centre at South Bank.”
Queensland Art Gallery Acting Director Andrew Clark said he was delighted with the response to APT5.
“This is the event the Gallery is best known for internationally and within the art museum community. It’s also the project that attracts the strongest and most diverse audiences,” Mr Clark said.
“APT5 includes works by high profile Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, one of the world’s most influential sculptors Anish Kapoor, and the strongest ever representation of works from the Pacific.
“Kids’ APT also runs until Sunday 27 May, offering dedicated children’s tours and interactive activities in the Queensland Art Gallery and GoMA.”
For film enthusiasts, APT5 cinema screenings continue, including Hong Kong, Shanghai: Cinema Cities, a program tracing the cinematic histories of these two important centres of film-making.
There is also an action-packed media gallery display celebrating the work of popular director and actor Jackie Chan.
To mark the closing days, the exhibition will be open until 9pm, on Friday 25 May. For further information about APT5 visit www.asiapacifictriennial.com
