The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
FUN RUN ENCOURAGES CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING IN BRISBANE
More than 1000 Brisbane residents will run, walk, spin or stroll along the Brisbane River as they take part in the Crescents of Brisbane annual CresWalk fun run this Sunday 20 May 2007.
Multiculturalism Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said Multicultural Affairs Queensland provided a $5,000 grant for the fun run that fosters community participation, interaction and a healthy lifestyle.
“This grant was funded through the State Government’s Muslim Community Engagement Strategy,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“This strategy aims to assist communities to build bridges of communication, interaction, and understanding between Muslim and non-Muslim Queenslanders.”
CresWalk 2007 includes 5km and 2.5km age category races, a pram and wheelchair race and a mini-run for younger participants aged 3-6 years.
Ms Nelson-Carr said the fun run was a fantastic opportunity to get out and be active in the community while learning about each other.
“Events like this are a great way to bring the community together, regardless of age, background or ability.
“People of all ages are encouraged to join in the fun and run, jog, skip, stroll, spin or walk in CresWalk 2007.”
A number of prizes are on offer including trophies for race winners and various other random draw prizes including two night’s accommodation at a coastal resort.
CresWalk 2007 will start at 8am sharp this Sunday 20 May at Orleigh Park in West End.
Crescents of Brisbane is a community based, not-for-profit organisation fostering a healthy lifestyle through sport, entertainment, education and culture in the community.
