FREE SEMINAR INTRODUCES IMPROVEMENTS TO BODY CORPORATE LEGISLATION

A free information seminar will be held on the Sunshine Coast this week to inform Queenslanders about important changes to Body Corporate Legislation.

Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading, Wine Industry Development and Women Margaret Keech said the seminar was designed to help people better understand their rights and responsibilities under the recent changes.

“The Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997 was amended a few months ago and there are some important changes people need to know about,” she said.

Mrs Keech said the amended legislation would make it much easier for Queenslanders to manage body corporate issues, but they needed to be aware of some new processes.

“These legislative changes will not only improve protection and introduce a code of conduct for body corporate committees but they’ll also strengthen the code of conduct for body corporate managers and enhance dispute resolution services provided by the Commissioner’s Office,” she said.

Mrs Keech said that in addition to these revisions her department would be developing a regulatory regime for body corporate managers and is currently examining a range of regulatory options for managers in Queensland.

Commissioner Nicola Doumany said the seminars would provide information regarding changes for committee members and body corporate managers, and new options for dispute resolution under the legislation.

Mrs Keech encouraged all Queenslanders involved in body corporate matters to get along to the seminar.

“The information provided in this free seminar will be invaluable to managers and committee members and I’d encourage everyone not to miss out on this great opportunity,” Mrs Keech said.

The seminar will be held at Caloundra Power Boat Club, Woorim Park, The Esplanade, Golden Beach from 10am to Midday on Thursday May 17.

Bookings can be made by contacting the Commissioner’s Office on 3227 7899.
