SCHOOL GOLF STARS COMPETE FOR STATE HONOURS

More than 160 school golf stars from across the state will compete in the Queensland School Sport Golf Championships at Kingaroy later this week.

Education and Training Minister, Rod Welford, said the Kingaroy and Wondai Golf Clubs would host the 12 years-and-under and 19-years-and-under state championships.

“The students have been selected for their hard work, talent and skill and I’d like to congratulate them and wish them every success,” Mr Welford said.

“They’ll compete in individual and team events during the four-day championships from Thursday 17 May to Sunday 20 May.

“It’s a great opportunity for these young athletes to compete at a high level while meeting and sharing experiences with their peers from across the state.”

Ten sporting regions will be represented—Metropolitan West, Metropolitan North, Metropolitan East, Wide Bay, Capricornia, Darling Downs, Northern, Peninsula, South Coast and Sunshine Coast.

Mr Welford thanked the dedicated teachers and school staff who had worked hard to make the championships a success.

Following the event, 10 students will be selected from both the primary and secondary divisions to represent Queensland at the School Sport Australia Golf Championships.

The national competition for the 12-years-and-under division will be held at Wynnum in October, while the national event for the 19-years-and-under age group will be held in Victoria in August.
