Queensland schools participate in Law Week 2007

Secondary schools across Queensland are participating in Law Week 2007 using free education packs prepared by the State Government’s Department of Justice and Attorney-General.

Attorney-General Kerry Shine said Law Week (12 to 19 May) was an important way to raise awareness and understanding about Queensland’s legal system.

Mr Shine said the education packs for secondary school legal studies teachers were designed to help teachers plan events and lessons for students.

“More than 300 schools have directly contacted the Department to register for education packs,” Mr Shine said.

“The education packs, featuring information about young people’s rights, the courts system, wills and alternative dispute resolutions, will be sent electronically to secondary school legal studies teachers in Queensland.”

Mr Shine said the interest of Queensland schools, teachers and students in Law Week was very welcomed.

“It is critical for all Queenslanders, particularly young Queenslanders, to understand our laws and how our legal system works,” Mr Shine said.

To register to receive a pack to email public.affairs@justice.qld.gov.au and register their interest.
