Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson

New child care centre opens at the Prince Charles Hospital

A new child care centre at the Prince Charles Hospital is helping to make the campus a more family-friendly workplace, Health Minister Stephen Robertson said today.

Mr Robertson officially opened the $2 million Prince Charles Hospital Early Education Centre today.

He said the centre will provide places for up to 150 children between birth and school age.

“This new centre is the latest in a series of major improvements taking place at Prince Charles Hospital including new emergency department and critical care unit,” Mr Robertson said.

“This Centre is a great initiative and supports Queensland Health’s commitment to providing staff with a family-friendly workplace.

“We recognise the challenge many parents face in trying to balance work and family life and try to provide as much support as possible.

“Having convenient access to quality child care facilities can make life easier for staff which in turn, can lead to more satisfied staff.

“An organisation with satisfied employees generally has higher levels of staff morale, improved productivity and better retention of staff.”

Mr Robertson said the centre was available to children aged between six weeks and six years of age, and offers a before-and-after school care and vacation care program.

“The Early Education Centre was innovatively designed with a unique environmental area, super-size shaded outdoor areas and security system to ensure the maximum safety of children,” he said.

“Children can have catered hot lunch meals which are nutritionally balanced for their specific needs.

“The centre also has a bus to take children from the centre to and from school if required.”

The Centre gives priority to children of staff working at the Prince Charles Hospital however enrolments are also welcome from the wider community.

Additional staff will be employed as the number of enrolments increases over the coming months.

Mr Robertson said parents interested in finding out more or who would like to obtain an enrolment package can contact the Prince Charles Early Education Centre on 3359 6082.
