Minister for Environment and Multiculturalism
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Cairns businesses have new opportunities to benefit the environment and their bottom line, thanks to a new alliance between Cairns Water and the Environmental Protection Agency’s ecoBiz program, according to Queensland Environment Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr.
“I’m proud to announce that Cairns City Council, through Cairns Water, is now an EPA ecoBiz ally,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“Under the agreement, Cairns Water officers will play an important role informing and encouraging local businesses to sign up and enjoy the benefits of ecoBiz, available to all Queensland businesses.
“Nine Cairns companies have already joined ecoBiz - a six-step action plan to boost their eco-efficiency and become more profitable.
“This partnership with Cairns Water will mean even more Cairns-based companies can enjoy the financial and environmental benefits that come with saving water.”
Ms Nelson-Carr said Cairns Water Officers and their industry clients will take part in an ecoBiz training program where they will learn about ecoBiz, business baseline assessments and action plans.
More than 40 businesses will attend an EPA ecoBiz workshop today (Thursday, 10 May) to hear the success stories of local ecoBiz participants, and listen to EPA advice.
“This is a great opportunity for businesses to learn more about how to improve their bottom line performance through eco-efficiency - doing more with less water, energy and material. “
Cairns City Council will be the 11th local council to form an alliance with the EPA to implement its ecoBiz program in their local areas.
Under ecoBiz, rebates are available to companies that show the benefits of conserving and recycling resources in a way that delivers economic, environmental and social benefit to the business and the wider community.
Companies can receive rebates for up to 30 percent of total project value to a maximum of $150,000 - payable after completion of activities identified through ecoBiz.
