Minister for Environment and Multiculturalism
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr

INTERNATIONAL GUEST TO TALK GLOBAL WARMING IN BRISBANE

An international speaker on climate change and key advisor to Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth campaign will visit Brisbane in May to present a free information session on simple, affordable changes the community can make to reduce global warming.

Minister for Environment Lindy Nelson-Carr said the community presentation by David Gershon on 18 May at the State Library at South Bank will emphasise that each and every person can have an impact on climate change.

“By changing our every day actions, we can significantly reduce our carbon emissions,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

The free session will consist of fun and easy ways to change your everyday life to reduce global warming and, for those who are more ambitious, ways to become “carbon neutral”.

“Over the past few years we have seen a succession of climate records broken – the hottest month, the hottest year on record, the longest period of drought, and the most severe storms

“Our climate is changing and to sustain our lives on earth, we need to change the way we interact with the environment to minimise our impact,” she said.

David Gershon has been a key advisor to Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth campaign and has worked as advisor to the Clinton White House. Founder and CEO of the Empowerment Institute, David Gershon is the author of nine books including the very successful Low Carbon Diet: A 30 Day Program to Lose 5000 Pounds.

The free public information session is on Friday 18 May State Library, Southbank, 6:30 – 8:30pm. RSVP by 11 May 2007 to ensure your place: Caroline Rohlf, (07) 3225 1524 or caroline.rohlf@epa.qld.gov.au.
