An innovative program that makes it easy to access the services provided by Justices of the Peace (JPs) is now available at Redbank Plaza.

Attorney-General Kerry Shine joined Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller to launch the 'JPs in the Community' program at the Redbank Plaza Shopping Centre.

“By establishing this service, Redbank Plaza and local JPs will make it easier for residents to find a JP,” Mr Shine said.

“Our Government is delighted to be working in partnership with Redbank Plaza shopping centre to expand the service, which now involves 94 community signing centres across the State.”

“Local JPs will initially be available on Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 12 noon to witness documents such as affidavits and statutory declarations.”

“I want to congratulate all the JPs involved in the project for volunteering their time.”

Mr Shine said the ‘JPs in the Community’ program been a resounding success around Queensland.

“Shopping centres are an important hub for the community. It makes sense to locate a JP at shopping centres to meet the community needs,” he said.

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General JP Branch had contacted local JPs inviting them to participate in the ‘JP’s in the Community’ program. Fourteen JPs responded by attending a briefing to discuss the need for a service in the area.

“The volunteer JPs operate in shopping centres, libraries, court registries and some law buildings, handling between 1500 and 2000 matters each day across Queensland,” Mr Shine said.

“I want to congratulate all the JPs involved in the project for volunteering their time.”

“I encourage people in the local community to use this service and take advantage of having an available JP at a convenient and central location.
