The Honourable Kerry Shine

Queensland Attorney-General Kerry Shine will take no legal action regarding a song, called “Black Tears”, soon to be released by Australian band Powderfinger.

The media reported last week that lawyers for Senior-Sergeant Chris Hurley were lodging a complaint with Mr Shine's office about the song’s lyrics.

Mr Shine's office has yet to receive any complaint from Senior-Sergeant Hurley’s legal representatives.

However, lawyers for Powderfinger sent Mr Shine a copy of the lyrics on Friday (4 May).

Crown Law has examined the lyrics. Crown Law have advised Mr Shine's office the lyrics raise no legal concern.

Legal proceedings against Senior-Sergeant Hurley are underway. Therefore, Mr Shine will not make any further comment on the issue.
