The Honourable Peter Beattie
QUEENSLAND MUSIC MAKES A BIG SPLASH ON THE WORLD STAGE
BOSTON: Queensland’s musical talent is making a big splash on the world stage and the State government is keen to cash in on the exposure.
“The 5 May issue of Billboard magazine – the ‘must read’ magazine for musical entrepreneurs – features a State government advertisement promoting the Big Sound Music Industry Summit in Brisbane from 3-5 October,” Premier Peter Beattie said.
“As the advertisement says:
If you’ve heard of Veronicas, The Butterfly Effect, Powderfinger or Pete Murray you’ve experienced the kind of music that convinced Billboard to name Brisbane, Australia one of the five global music hotspots to watch in 2007.
“These are just some of Queensland’s big names making an impact on the world stage and we are keen to capitalise on their growing reputation to help other Queensland bands and performers break into the international music scene,” Mr Beattie said.
“The Billboard advertisement asks: Hands up who’s heard of Brisbane, over a photo of an enthusiastic mosh pit. “The answer is increasingly almost anyone and everyone in the music industry,” Mr Beattie said.
“It is not just Queenslanders doing well on the world stage – these entertainers are also earning important export dollars and making a big contribution to the Smart State’s economy.
“Whenever I travel I take every opportunity to promote Queensland’s musical talent and this trade mission is no exception. Once again I will be handing out CDs of some of our best performers as official presents on the trade mission,” Mr Beattie said.
The Premier’s gift pack includes:
• Songs from the 4th Floor by Nik Phillips;
• Tea and Sympathy by Bernard Fanning;
• The Secret Life of the Veronicas by the Veronicas;
• Oceans Apart by The Go-Betweens;
• Cannot buy my Soul – Songs of Kev Carmody; and
• It’s All Good by Graham Connors.
“As always, the CDs are proving to be a popular gift wherever I go,” Mr Beattie said.
