PREMIER ANNOUNCES REAPPOINTMENT OF INTEGRITY COMMISSIONER
Premier Peter Beattie today announced the reappointment of Mr Gary Crooke QC as Queensland’s Integrity Commissioner for another two years.
Mr Beattie said Mr Crooke’s term would be extended until 30 June, 2009.
“Mr Crooke will continue the vital role of providing advice on conflict of interest issues to myself, my Ministers and senior executives of the public service,” Mr Beattie said.
“His continued advice will ensure all senior public servants and Ministers are well informed and equipped to ensure the highest standards of accountability and probity in their professional dealings.”
Mr Crooke is Queensland’s second Integrity Commissioner and has held the position since July 2004.
During his career he has worked on a number of high profile matters including:
• Senior Counsel Assisting the Queensland Fitzgerald Inquiry 1987-89
• Senior Counsel Assisting New South Wales Royal Commission into Police Corruption 1994-97
He has also held the following appointments:
• Chairman National Crime Authority 1999-2002
• Co-Chair Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering 1999-2002
Mr Crooke was also President of the Queensland Bar Association 1989-90, the President of the Australian Bar Association 1990-91 and has been a Life Member of the Queensland Bar Association since 1993.
