Racing appeals tribunal appointed: Fraser
The Minister for Local Government, Planning and Sport Andrew Fraser today announced the appointment of racing industry’s top appeal body for another three years.
Mr Fraser said the Racing Appeals Tribunal’s Chairman Leo Williams, Deputy Chairman Brockwell Miller and Member Dennis Standfield had been re-appointed.
“The Racing Appeals Tribunal is an integral part of upholding the integrity of the Queensland racing industry,” Mr Fraser said.
“The Tribunal gives an independent avenue of appeal for industry participants seeking justice.
“Mr Williams and his fellow Tribunal members provide an outstanding service to the racing industry by providing a timely and cost-effective way for participants to have their case re-heard by an independent body.”
A former chairman of the Rugby World Cup, Mr Williams is a solicitor of over 30 years standing and has served on the Racing Appeals Tribunal since 1992.
Mr Miller has been a solicitor for more than 23 years and served on the Tribunal in 1995-96 before being re-appointed in 2006. Mr Standfield is a solicitor of more than 30 years and has been a member of the Tribunal since 2001.
Mr Fraser said the Racing Appeals Tribunal had been appointed until 26 April 2010.
