Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson

Wide Bay residents are being urged to share their views on local health services as part of an extensive health planning process launched today.

Health Minister Stephen Robertson said the health service planning would ensure the delivery of safe and sustainable health care services in the Wide Bay region.

“We particularly want to hear from patients, local clinicians and other health care providers about the kinds of health issues that influence them,” Mr Robertson said.

“The planning process will consider what health services are needed locally and how we can allocate the resources needed to deliver those services into the future.

“We want to ensure Wide Bay residents have the kind of public health care they expect and deserve and that means access to local, quality, safe and sustainable health services.”

Mr Robertson said arrangements are being made for stakeholder consultation to begin in May to give locals their chance to have input into health planning.

The Wide Bay region includes Bundaberg, Maryborough, Fraser Coast, Monto and Gayndah areas.

Mr Robertson said Queensland Health’s planning process was guided by the Queensland Statewide Health Services Plan 2007-2012.

“Health Community Councils will also play a vital role in the development of health plans,” he said.

“These councils help to link the community with Queensland Health.

“They will also help to ensure there is effective communication between General Practitioners and non-government sectors.

Mr Robertson said the Wide Bay was the first region in Queensland Health’s central area to begin health service planning.
