Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries
The Honourable Tim Mulherin
Locally-produced food will be showcased at a Primary Industries Week event at the Mackay Marina this Sunday (29 April, 2007).
Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin will join local stakeholders at the Pioneers of Produce event to highlight primary production in the Mackay region.
Mr Mulherin said Mackay’s Pioneers of Produce event to celebrate Queensland’s Primary Industries Week (April 27 – May 5) would provide a networking opportunity for invited producers, industry leaders and potential investors.
“The Mackay region is home to a vibrant primary industries sector with exciting prospects for future growth and investment,” Mr Mulherin said.
“Primary Industries Week is the ideal time to promote what the region has to offer in the way of infrastructure and products.
“The event will take guests on a tour of our excellent harbour infrastructure including the wharf facilities, a redevelopment area for the fishing industry and Australia’s largest sugar storage shed.
“They will see first-hand how the port supports and facilitates the local sugar, grain, fishing and beef industries.”
Mr Mulherin said guests will be treated to a brunch featuring meals prepared with quality local produce while they hear more about the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries direction and focus for the region.
The event will include presentations by the Minister and Parliamentary Secretary Jan Jarratt, Port Authority chairman Graham Davies and DPI&F Regional Director Paul Walmsley.
Primary Industries Week began in 1996 to build and enhance public awareness and understanding of the value and importance of primary industries in Queensland.
