$2.9 MILLION PUBLIC HOUSING BOOST FOR BUNDABERG

The State Government will spend $2.4 million building ten two bedroom units on Mount Perry Road, Bundaberg, Minister for Housing Robert Schwarten announced today.

Mr Schwarten said she was delighted to approve the project which will boost the supply of public housing in the area.

“The private rental market is becoming more and more over heated and this is hurting low income earners,” Mr Schwarten said.

“The increasing cost of the private rental market has pushed the cost of buying and renting properties up and out of reach of some low-income earners.

“This project will bring more affordable accommodation online in the area, which is great news.”

The construction will be completed by the end of the year.

Mr Schwarten said it was another example of the Beattie Government’s strong commitment to public housing, which had seen more than $47 million spent on new constructions, property purchases and other housing related services in the area since 1998.
