The Honourable Robert Schwarten
REPAIR AND CLEAN FOR WARWICK WAR MEMORIAL
Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten announced funding today to repair and cleaning of Warwick’s historic war memorial.
Mr Schwarten said the Queensland Government will provide $4994 in a dollar-for-dollar subsidy through a grant from the Community Memorials Restoration Program to conduct the work on the heritage-registered sandstone monument at Leslie Park .
The Warwick War Memorial has a strong and continuing association with the local community, forming a focal point for ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day services,” said Mr Schwarten.
“Part of the work to be undertaken is restoring the names of the fallen on the plaque at the front of the memorial.
“It is essential that the names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice remain prominently on display.
“We commend the Warwick Shire Council for its commitment to maintaining its War Memorial, which continues to remind people of the enormous sacrifices made by local servicemen and women in times of conflict,” he said.
The Warwick War memorial was constructed in 1923 and honours the 122 local men who died in the First World War.
The Community Memorials Restoration Program is partnering with the Warwick Shire Council to undertake the work to a total cost of $9,988.
The Community Memorials Restoration Program, now in its third year, has provided almost $1,157,300 in dollar-for-dollar subsidies to councils and community organisations to help restore historic monuments and other local icons around the State.
