Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Premier in Western Queensland
The Honourable Kerry Shine

Countdown to Law Week 2007 begins

The countdown to this year’s Law Week began today, with secondary school legal studies teachers across the State receiving free eduction packs.

Attorney-General and Justice Minister Kerry Shine said the packs were designed to inform all legal studies teachers of the events occurring during Law Week and provide legal resources for Queensland students.

“Law Week 2007 (12 to 19 May) is shaping up to be the biggest yet, and these packs will help teachers plan events and lessons for students that will help them further understand the law and its importance in our society,” he said.

Mr Shine said many legal studies teachers had already registered to receive a pack but there was still time for others to email public.affairs@justice.qld.gov.au and register their interest.

“The education packs, featuring information about young people’s rights, the courts system, wills and alternative dispute resolutions, will be sent electronically to secondary school legal studies teachers in Queensland.

“The packs will also direct teacher and students to the online discussion forums being held throughout Law Week.

“The online forums will involve expects across a range of issues including consumer issues, mediation, wills, enduring power of attorney and young people’s rights.

“Students will have the chance to ask questions and, just as importantly, share their ideas about these important legal issues.”

People can participate in the forums from 12 to 27 May on the Get Involved website at www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au.

Law Week will be held from 12 to 19 May encouraging Queenslanders to open the door to law.
