QUEENSLAND GARDEN LIFESTYLE SHOW TO GIVE WATER WISE TIPS

The popular Queensland Garden Lifestyle Show is on again over the May long weekend, giving Redlands green thumbs the chance to add life to their backyards in spite of the on-going drought.

Now in its third year, the show, organised by the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, is on May 5 at Cleveland, with plenty of gardening and outdoor activities planned for the whole family.

“The show will highlight that despite the drought there are many ways people can keep their yards looking great,’’ Minister for Primary industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin said.

“Many people are struggling to find ways to revitalise their gardens while being faced with water restrictions.

“This year’s show has a strong focus on water wise gardening and will provide ideas and products that will help alleviate some of these challenges.”

Member for Cleveland Phil Weightman said gardening personalities, Colin Campbell and Phil Dudman, would give presentations about good gardening practices in times of drought.

“Col and Phil always have some innovative ideas for keen gardeners and are also great entertainers,” Mr Weightman said.

Mr Weightman said activities planned for the day, included:
• a live broadcast of Colin Campbell’s popular Talking Gardening show on 4BC;
• presentations and a question and answer session by Colin Campbell and Phil Dudman (from Channel 9’s The Garden Gurus), as well as presentations on DIY mother’s day flowers and turf growing basics;
• Over 35 market style stalls selling the latest products, plants, and ideas for the garden;
• tours of the popular and historic Redlands Heritage Gardens, featuring a variety of fruits, vegetables, trees, shrubs and grasses and
• a jumping castle for kids.

The Queensland Garden Lifestyle Show is on 5 May 2007 at DPI&F Redlands research Station, Delancey Street Cleveland from 8.30 am to 3 pm.

The show is proudly supported by Brisbane 4BC Radio, The Garden Gurus, the Redland Times, the Bayside Bulletin and DPI&F.
