Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries
The Honourable Tim Mulherin

PART OF DALRYMPLE SHIRE NO LONGER DROUGHT DECLARED

The southern part of Dalrymple Shire is no longer drought declared after good rainfall earlier this year.

Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin has revoked the drought declaration for the area of the shire south of the Flinders Highway following recommendations from the Local Drought Committee.

The declaration is effective as at April 2, 2007.

Mr Mulherin said the area had received abundant rainfall in late January and February, 2007.

“Pastures have responded well in most areas with many species generally in decent quality and quantity,” Mr Mulherin said.

“Combined with late winter rain in 2006 this has proven very effective in assisting the area in general.”

The revocation takes the area of Queensland officially drought declared by the State Government to 74 shires and two part shires, which is equivalent to 61.5% of the land area of the State.

There are also 87 Individually Droughted Properties in a further 12 shires.

Producers who have not received adequate rainfall to alleviate drought conditions can apply for an Individually Droughted Property application.

This declaration affords primary producers the same access to State Government assistance, as does a shire declaration.
