The Honourable John Mickel

Sixteen Queensland fine food manufacturers will have the opportunity to showcase their wares at the 2007 Good Food & Wine Show in Brisbane in November.

Minister for State Development John Mickel said his Department would host a Queensland display at the event which is one of Australia’s largest consumer exhibitions.

“More than 14,000 food lovers visited the 2006 Good Food & Wine Show which featured around 200 Queensland and interstate exhibitors displaying the latest products, ideas and trends in Australian food, drink, kitchen appliances and cookware,” Mr Mickel said.

“My Department is investing $20,000 to give Queensland’s gourmet and fine food manufacturers a premium position from which to display and sell their quality products.

“It provides them with a forum to launch new products, educate and meet customers, build brand recognition and loyalty and increase their long term sales and market share.”

Mr Mickel said the display was one of a number of State Development initiatives to promote the quality and diversity of Queensland’s fine and gourmet food products.

“Queensland’s food and beverage industry is one of the largest manufacturing sectors in the State, contributing more than $13 billion annually to the economy and employing some 43,000 people,” he said.

“We are rapidly gaining a worldwide reputation for the quality of our products, from gourmet pasta, olive oils and chocolates, to cheeses, meats and seafood.

“The Department will work closely with the industry, through initiatives such as this, to ensure that Queensland maintains this reputation.”

The Good Food & Wine Show will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, 9-11 November 2007.
