CAREERS WEEK - A TIME TO EXPLORE OPTIONS

The State Government’s emphasis on skills development to meet the demands of a growing population is being highlighted during Careers Week 2007 this week.

Education and Training Minister, Rod Welford, said the week brings together business, government and training providers to showcase the careers and employment opportunities available throughout the state.

“Careers Week provides a vital channel of communication between business and the Queensland public,” Mr Welford said.

“For school leavers, university graduates or Queenslanders looking for new opportunities,

Careers Week provides valuable information about business and industry.

“It also gives employers an opportunity to demonstrate what they have to offer.

Queensland has a dynamic and growing labour market, providing a unique opportunity to develop a range of skills which are in demand.”

Mr Welford said Careers Week events were another important means of engaging with the community on the vital issue of skills development.

“Our Government has demonstrated its strong commitment to skills development through the $1 billion Queensland Skills Plan,” he said.

“We are progressing a range of initiatives such as Skilling Solutions Queensland and Small Business Solutions to help Queenslanders develop their skills.

“Careers Week supports those initiatives, and encourages private training providers, employers and the community to become partners with us in developing a highly-skilled workforce for the future.”

Careers Week activities, ranging from TAFE institute open days to professional development seminars for small business, are designed to highlight the many career paths available to Queenslanders.

Careers Week activities are being staged throughout Queensland this week (16 to 22 April). For more information log on to www.careersweek.com.au.
