Monster tow truck to ease Gateway delays

A tow truck capable of shifting a fully-loaded B-double is now stationed on the GatewayBridge to minimise traffic delays, Acting Transport and Main Roads Minister, John Mickel, said today.

“This dedicated heavy recovery vehicle is on standby at the bridge so it can respond swiftly to trucks which have broken down or been involved in accidents.

“And it’s no shrinking violet - this monster muscle machine can shift a massive 110 tonnes.

“It’s been teamed with a regular tow truck tasked with car removal and that means in most circumstances we can deal with disabled vehicles before they cause major traffic headaches.

“Obviously when there’s a crash, police have to do their investigations but this monster tow truck will still make a major impact.”

Mr Mickel said the tow truck, provided by Barnes Towing and Salvage Qld Pty Ltd, is on permanent standby at the Gateway toll plaza between 6 - 9am and 3-7pm.

“This is already a busy arterial road being used by trucks travelling up and down the coast.

“And as our population and economy grow, there are more and more demands on the road network from heavy trucks, already more than 100,000 vehicles use the Gateway everyday.

“We’re doing what we can to minimise the impact of accidents and breakdowns on the GatewayBridge and easing the potential for knock-on effects across the Greater Brisbane road network,” Mr Mickel said.
