Young Queenslanders prepare for National Youth Week
Queensland youths are putting the finishing touches to a range of celebrations for National Youth Week 2007, which will be officially launched tomorrow (Saturday, 14 April).
Youth Minister Warren Pitt will launch Queensland’s National Youth Week celebrations in the north Queensland city of Thuringowa, as part of a day of exciting youth-orientated events.
The 8th annual National Youth Week, to be held from 14–22 April, is a joint initiative supported by Commonwealth, state and local governments.
Mr Pitt said this year’s National Youth Week celebrations promised to be bigger and better than ever, with numerous events and activities to be staged from far north Queensland through to the Gold Coast and many places in between.
“National Youth Week is a unique opportunity for young people to showcase their talents and abilities, while highlighting the positive contributions they make to the community,” Mr Pitt said.
“So if you are aged 12 to 25, then this is your chance to get involved, be heard and make a difference.
“Young Queenslanders will be spoilt for choice this year, with events ranging from art exhibitions and live concerts through to film festivals and hip hop workshops.”
Mr Pitt said the Queensland Government had allocated $94,000 this year to 10 community organisations across the state to help them celebrate and promote National Youth Week events and activities.
“The Queensland Government is proud to support National Youth Week,” he said.
“The government also supports numerous other youth-orientated initiatives, such as the Queensland Youth Council, which encourage and enable young people to showcase their talents, participate in their communities, learn new skills and have their say.”
