$5.5 million boost to Peninsula Power
More than 13,000 homes and businesses will benefit from a $5.5 million power upgrade on the Redcliffe Peninsula.
Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson said work would start soon on an upgrade to the Energex substation at Duffield Road, Clontarf.
“The upgrade will more than double the amount of power available to homes and businesses in the area,” Mr Wilson said.
“Two new transformers will be installed at the substation on the corner of Duffield Road and Snook Street.
“They will replace three smaller transformers already in use,” he said.
Member for Redcliffe Lillian van Litsenburg said electricity use in the area had been rising at around 9% in recent years.
“Forecasts indicate this growth is expected to continue,” said Ms van Litsenburg.
“The upgrade will provide Energex with greater options to restore power faster if there are unexpected disruptions to the network.
“Energex will take all reasonable measures to reduce inconvenience to the local community during the works,” she said.
Energex is spending $643 million this year on the electricity network while a further $263 million has been set aside to maintain and operate the network.
Energex supplies electricity to around 2.7 million people in south east Queensland.
The company’s distribution area of 25,000 square kilometres includes almost 50,000km of underground and overhead electricity lines and cables, over half a million power poles, some 40,000 transformers and more than 260,000 street lights.
