The Honourable Paul Lucas
Bids to double Mt Lindesay Highway
Tenders have been called today for a major $100 million upgrade of Mount Lindesay Highway.
Acting Minister for Transport and Main Roads, and Member for Logan, John Mickel, has thrown open bidding for the contract to duplicate a 4.5km section of the highway between Green Road and Granger Road.
“This landmark project involves widening the highway to four freeway standard lanes with service roads and the construction of an overpass over Park Ridge Road.
“It’s a solid indication of the Queensland Government’s commitment to commercial, industrial and residential development in the MountLindesay and North Beaudesert region.
“The Mount Lindesay Highway has been identified as a potential driver of local jobs, that’s why this upgrade is so important to the area.”
Mr Mickel said the 4.5 kilometre duplication forms the next stage of a major upgrade of the Mt Lindesay Highway.
“We’ve already invested $53 million on widening the highway to four lanes between Middle and Green Roads.
“Improvements to the service road on the eastern side of the highway have also been delivered.
“That’s helped reduce traffic congestion and created safer drop-off and pick-up facilities at Park Ridge State School.”
Mr Mickel said there were plans for a highway underpass near Granger Road for local wildlife.
“The upgrade is seeing traffic lights at highway intersections consigned to history to deliver true freeway conditions.
“And it’s not just motorists who’ll gain from the improved road capacity and safety.
“Cyclists and pedestrians will reap the benefits of two new highway underpasses, one just south of the Green Road intersection, the other near Andrew Road.”
Tenders for the highway duplication from Green to Granger Road will close in early June with construction planned to start by the end of this year.
“All four lanes are expected to be open to motorists by late 2009,” Mr Mickel said.
