NEXT GENERATION OF STAGE STARS IN BRISBANE

The next generation of potential stage stars is in Brisbane this week learning the tricks of the trade from a range of professional artists.

Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts, Rod Welford, said 35 state school students from across the state had been chosen to take part in the Easter school holidays workshop.

“The three-day workshop, ending on Friday, is the final phase in an audition process to select up to 20 talented youngsters to be featured artists in the musical spectacular, Creative Generation – State Schools Onstage 2007,” Mr Welford said.

“The students attending the workshop this week were chosen from a competitive series of auditions earlier this year.

“They are now working with professional artists, such as stage legend Simon Gallaher, to further develop their skills and gain a coveted feature role in the annual schools spectacular.

“The event will be a key celebration as part of State Education Week 2007 at the end of May.”

Students are attending the workshop from as far away as Cairns, Emerald, Tannum Sands, Urangan, Toowoomba and Gympie.

Creative Generation – State Schools Onstage 2007 will be staged over three performances on Thursday 31 May and Friday 1 June at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre Concert Hall.

The spectacular will include 550 state school performers from more than 50 schools across Queensland performing with a 70-piece orchestra, 220 dancers, and a 220-voice choir.

The event has evolved into an educational and entertainment event of the highest professional standard, showcasing the wealth of Queensland state schools’ creative talent.
